Whipped shea body butter is one of the easiest and most luxurious DIY skincare recipes you can make at home. With just raw shea butter, coconut oil, and a hand mixer, you'll create a fluffy, deeply moisturizing body butter in under 10 minutes. It's more effective than any store-bought lotion and contains zero synthetic chemicals.

The Recipe

prep time: 5 minutes | total time: 10 minutes + 1 hour cooling

Ingredients

  • 1 cup raw unrefined shea butter
  • 1/2 cup organic coconut oil
  • 10-15 drops essential oil of choice (optional)

Instructions

  1. melt — Add shea butter and coconut oil to a double boiler or heat-safe bowl over simmering water. Stir gently until just melted — do not overheat. Remove from heat immediately once liquid.
  2. cool — Let the mixture cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for 45-60 minutes until it's semi-solid (like soft butter). It should not be fully hard.
  3. whip — Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, whip the semi-solid mixture on medium-high for 3-5 minutes until it's fluffy and doubled in volume, like whipped cream.
  4. add scent — If using essential oils, fold them in gently with a spatula after whipping.
  5. store — Transfer to a clean glass jar or tin. Store in a cool place away from direct sunlight. Lasts 6-12 months.
