The Vitellaria paradoxa tree grows wild across West Africa's shea belt. It takes 15-20 years to begin producing fruit and can live for 300 years. Each tree is sacred — cutting one down is culturally forbidden, creating a natural conservation system that has protected these forests for generations.
The Harvest
June Through August
Each year during the rainy season, shea fruits are collected by hand. The fruits are de-pulped, and the precious nuts inside are carefully washed and sun-dried. Every nut represents hours of careful, dedicated work.
